Why i'm interested in UX and UI design:

- Talk about previous projects

One of the reasons i'm interested in UX and UI design lies in the overall process of development, this includes the progression of designing lo-fidelity mockups or sketches to creating working prototypes, according to the target audience for factors such as ease of use and creating a visually attractive product.

Also I feel the future of UX and UI will develop rapidly, with technology consistently evolving and the advancement of Artificial Intelligence, interface designs are going to become increasingly challenging as well at the factor of augmented reality adding another aspect to the design. These developments will create an interesting new path for UX/UI designers to deliver interfaces, or screens to convey the new technology in a way the targeted audience can use easily and efficiently.

App layouts interest me in ways different target audiences will react and use applications differently, creating a challenge of understanding the product or service before the designer can create a layout and interactions best suited to that audience demographic.

User interface screens on vehicles are constantly being updated and with a large amount of data necessary to be displayed a aesthetically pleasing composition and layout can be hard to achieve.

Week 1: SWOT / Self Assessment / Brainstorm's

Week 1 - Personal SWOT Analysis:

SWOT Description:

SWOT Analysis is a useful tool for understanding your strengths and weaknesses, and also identifying both the opportunities open to you and the possible threats you may face.

SWAT analysis can be used in a wide range of scenarios from looking at personal strengths and weakness to surveying potential business opportunities looking at the opportunities and threats.

My personal SWAT analysis
   Advantages of SWAT:
  • No technical knowledge required.
  • Simplicity.
  • Cost.
  • Subjective Analysis.
  • Quick.
  • Internal and external factors considered.
  • Capitalise on opportunities.
  • Address weakness.
  • Deter threats.
  • Understand and take advantage of strengths.

Disadvantages of SWAT:
  • No clear limits to whats not relevant.
  • Not clear on what factors take priority.
  • Allows non conformist issues to be raised and discussed.
  • Help generate ideas but not identify best.
  • Creates a lot of information but all may not be useful.

From my personal SWAT analysis it has allowed me set my self goals and given me the opportunity to develop my current weaknesses into strengths.

Addressing my weaknesses:

Lack of digital / creative work experience
- Start looking and applying to internships / apprenticeships develop the skills they want employees to have.

Lack of networking in industry
- Start attending local UX / Design events and conferences. also get involved on social media to start making connections.

Poor showcase portfolio
- Gather my current work and adapt it into a portfolio layout, also keep working on personal projects to keep portfolio updated.

Gaps in development knowledge
- Tests my skills and further develop my design ideas to working prototypes or even finished launched apps, websites or products.

By highlighting my current status it allows you to see an overview of your own personal skills and drawbacks.

Digital Media / Design Job Brainstorm:

In this brainstorm I have looked at all the possible jobs around the theme of digital media and design. These are possibilities for me to aim to achieve in the future of my career.

I have created a key to the jobs I feel  am currently most interested in,  Jobs circled in specific colour meaning:
  • Green - Highly Interest
  • Blue - Interested
  • Red - Not Currently Interested

Looking at the future of digital design & media jobs the development looks very interesting and I believe this job sector will continue to expand and develop rapidly creating new exciting job opportunities.

Possible New & Developing Job Opportunities:
  • Wearable technology designers
  • Complex 3D designers
  • Digital product designers
  • UX/UI Designers
  • Strategic design managers
  • Augmented reality designers
  • Drone experience designer

Many changes will arise thought the design industry, especially with the uprising of machine learning which will allow computers to make the kind of aesthetic choices that humans make today.

This could lead to the digital design job industry completely changing in the future with possibilities for both jobs to be lost and gained.

Overall the future of the industry is exciting with lots of new possibilities arising, I believe if new trends and technologies are kept up with this job area can be highly rewarding.
