Week 3 - Job research / Career industry areas

Career Brainstorm

Here I look at all the possible industry areas that I could move into from my digital design/media degree. As well as the possible jobs all these areas contain, looking to develop my understanding of specific areas of the industry and progressing my knowledge to help me figure out a plan of how I can move into these specific roles.

The UK and worldwide creative industry sectors are ever growing, with new technology advancing and bringing new jobs to light, this will create many sub-sectors developing the need for advancing skills and new jobs to be fulfilled.

Top 4 Areas :

These are the top four areas I am currently most interested in and plan to tailor some of my skills of design in favour of these sectors. This is to tailor myself towards these industries early building up the specific skills, knowledge and software understanding necessary for these industry sectors.

  • Automotive
  • Design
  • Advertising / Marketing
  • Freelance / Self Employment

Automotive Industry Job Development:

The automotive industry has reached an interesting turning point where new technology such as hybrid / electric motors and advanced Artificial Intelligence (leading to autonomous driving)  have moved the car industry froward. This has opened a window for the technology to follow suit in the form of interiors, exterior, new ideas of using technology to shape and define the automobiles with a factor of emotion. This will allow users to connect on a higher emotional level than ever before through personal assistants (e.g Alexa).

Knowledge & Skills Analysis:

In this table I have added personal skills I currently possess and assessed the level at present I believe to be at. By outlining what skills are low scoring I now have and idea of the process i can implement to gain further knowledge and experience.

To help improve my scores I plan to:

  • Do more personal projects
  • Read up around subjects I do not feel knowledgeable in
  • Use Lynda. com to improve skills and learn new skills
  • Find a good monthly UX/UI & other subjects, monthly magazine
  • Regally view online creative sites like: www.CreativeBloq.com

By completing these steps I feel I can improve many of my self given scores. This in turn will help me progress to my chosen career path to become a more highly skilled and more desirable employee for my first graduate job.

Knowledge & Skills I consider Important In my Future Career:
